MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611051510 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras on April 22, 2026, for A Low Cost Thermal Battery.

Abstract: The present invention provides a low cost thermal battery (100) comprising a plurality of thermal storage cells arranged in series. Each thermal storage cell includes an outer metallic shell (06) defining a phase change material (PCM) region, a central charging tube for carrying a hot heat transfer fluid and at least two discharging tubes configured to carry a cold heat transfer fluid arranged to enable simultaneous transfer of heat into and out of the PCM region (05) during operation and a structured conductive insert disposed within the PCM region (05) and the structured conductive insert includes a steel wire mesh (04) in combination with one or more fin elements (02) to enhance heat transfer within the PCM region (05).
