Abstract: The present invention relates to a low-cost non-invasive device for anemia detection using optical sensing. The device is designed to estimate anemia risk without requiring blood sample collection, needle-prick testing, chemical reagents, disposable strips, or laboratory-based analysers. The invention comprises a light-emitting unit, an optical sensing unit, a signal acquisition unit, a processing unit, a power supply unit, and an output unit. During operation, a selected body part such as a fingertip, nail bed, palm, earlobe, or conjunctiva is placed in the sensing region of the device. Controlled light of one or more selected wavelengths is directed toward the tissue, and the optical sensor detects transmitted, reflected, or absorbed light responses associated with hemoglobin characteristics. The captured optical signal is converted into electrical data and processed using amplification, filtering, noise reduction, analog-to-digital conversion, calibration, and feature extraction techniques. The processing unit analyses optical parameters such as intensity ratio, absorption difference, reflectance value, transmission value, pulse variation, and haemoglobin-related optical index. In one embodiment, machine-learning-based classification may be used to identify anemia risk levels such as normal, mild anemia, moderate anemia, or severe anemia. The device may include ambient-light compensation, placement detection, repeated measurement averaging, and signal quality assessment to improve reliability under practical conditions. The output unit displays or transmits the anemia screening result, estimated haemoglobin range, and recommendation for confirmatory clinical testing when required. Thus, the invention provides a painless, portable, reusable, affordable, and rapid preliminary anemia screening solution suitable for hospitals, rural health centres, schools, public health camps, and home-care environments.
