Abstract: ABSTRACT A LOW-CARBON HIGH-STRENGTH BUILDING BLOCK DEVELOPED USING TERNARY BLENDED ONE-PART GEOPOLYMER The present invention relates to a dry, one-part, just-add-water geopolymer mortar composition for producing sustainable construction materials and building blocks utilizing industrial wastes. The mortar composition comprises: a ternary precursor blend comprising of 60-70% by weight ground granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBS), 20-30% by weight red mud (RM) and 5-15% by weight silica fume (SF); a solid alkaline activator comprising sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide with a sodium silicate to sodium hydroxide ratio of 1:1.5; fine aggregate having a particle size below 4.75 mm, present in a binder to fine aggregate ratio of 1:3; and an organic additive as superplasticizer; such that the composition is activatable by addition of water alone to form a geopolymeric matrix. The present invention also provides a method of manufacturing a construction material or building block using the ternary geopolymer composite, thereby eliminating the handling of corrosive liquid activators and providing high-strength, low-carbon building blocks.
