Inventors include Mr. Shrinivas V. Warkhandkar; Dr. Vinitkumar Jayaprakash Dongre; and Dr. Sachin M. Pore.
The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a low-cost, low-carbon bamboo-based green building system and method for residential housing, particularly suitable for rural and semi-rural regions. The system utilizes treated bamboo as a primary structural material for columns, beams, walls, and roofing components, thereby reducing dependency on cement and steel-intensive construction. A residential unit constructed in accordance with the invention, having a built-up area of approximately 1500 square feet, demonstrates a significant reduction in environmental impact and construction cost when compared to conventional reinforced cement concrete (RCC) housing. The bamboo house exhibits an average carbon dioxide emission of approximately 1.2 tons, whereas a comparable RCC house generates approximately 53.03 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Further, the construction cost of the bamboo house is approximately Rs. 1061.12 per square feet, which is substantially lower than the cost of RCC construction at approximately Rs. 1695.05 per square feet. The invention incorporates optimized spatial planning, natural ventilation, and lightweight structural configuration, contributing to improved energy efficiency. The disclosed system is particularly recommended for affordable housing and government- supported rural housing schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY – Rural), especially in regions with abundant bamboo availability.
