Abstract: The present invention provides a latex urinary catheter and method for impregnation with trans-cinnamaldehyde, a bioactive phytochemical agent, using xylene and toluene as organic solvents to enhance antimicrobial properties of the catheter surface. The solvent-based impregnation technique facilitates the diffusion and incorporation of trans-cinnamaldehyde into the latex matrix, resulting in uniform distribution and retention of the active compound within the catheter material. The impregnated catheter exhibits improved resistance against adhesion and colonization of uropathogenic microorganisms responsible for catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs).
