MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631115506 A) filed by Mr. Abhishek Sinha; and Dr. Priyanka Sinha on September 26, 2026, for A Humidity-Compensated Apparatus And Method For Dual-Parameter Verification Of Returned Library Books.

Inventors include Mr. Abhishek Sinha; and Dr. Priyanka Sinha.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to library return verification systems and discloses a point-of-return apparatus and method that combine RFID-based identity matching with dual physical verification of book mass and spine width. A returned book placed on a verification surface is identified by an RFID reader, weighed by a load cell through an analog front end, and dimensioned using opposed non-contact distance sensors at fixed separation D to compute spine width s = D - (d1 + d2). An embedded controller retrieves a baseline record from a central server and applies humidity compensation using m corrected = m measured / [1 + k(H - H ref)], with k selected by binding category, to normalize current and stored weights. Mass deviation and spine width deviation are compared with respective thresholds to classify the return as ACCEPT, SOFT FLAG, or HARD ALERT. The invention improves reliability under varying ambient humidity for automated library book return screening.
