Abstract: The present invention relates to a human powered flour grinding machine having a pedal driven mechanism for converting mechanical energy generated by an operator into rotary energy for grinding grain. The machine comprises a supporting frame, an operator seat, a pedal assembly, a crank shaft, a primary transmission assembly, a secondary transmission assembly, a grinding shaft, a grain hopper, a grinding assembly, and a flour collection assembly. Operation of the pedal assembly rotates the crank shaft and transmits rotary movement through the primary and secondary transmission assemblies to the grinding shaft. The grinding shaft operates at least one grinding member positioned relative to a cooperating grinding member to reduce grain supplied from the hopper. A flow-control member regulates grain supply to the grinding assembly, while a grinding-clearance adjustment mechanism permits adjustment of the separation between the grinding members. A flywheel may smooth variations in pedal-generated rotation and a torque-limiting coupling may protect the transmission from excessive load. Ground material is directed into a removable collection assembly. The machine provides a mechanically integrated flour grinding arrangement capable of operation using human pedal power without requiring an electrically driven prime mover.
