Abstract: ABSTRACT A HONEY-COATED SURGICAL SUTURE AND A METHOD OF PREPARING THE SAME The present invention relates to a honey-coated surgical suture and a method for preparing the same. The surgical suture comprises a suture substrate coated with a bioactive composition comprising honey or a honey-derived composition. The honey coating imparts localized antimicrobial and wound-healing properties at the surgical site while substantially maintaining the mechanical integrity, tensile strength, and knot security of the suture. The coating may be applied to natural or synthetic sutures using a coating process comprising contact of the suture substrate with a honey-based composition followed by drying. The coated suture exhibits antimicrobial activity against pathogenic microorganisms associated with surgical site infections and is suitable for use in oral, dental, maxillofacial, and other surgical procedures. The invention provides a natural alternative to antibiotic- coated sutures for promoting wound healing and reducing microbial colonization.
