Abstract: ABSTRACT A HEATED ORTHOPAEDIC SHOE WITH INTEGRATED PLANTAR SUPPORT SYSTEM The present invention relates to a heated orthopaedic footwear system (100) comprising a footwear body (102), a sole portion (104), an integrated plantar support member (106), a piezoelectric energy-generating arrangement (108), an energy-conditioning arrangement (112), a rechargeable battery (118), a heating arrangement (120), a temperature sensor (124) and a controller (126). The piezoelectric energy- generating arrangement (108) generates electrical energy in response to mechanical loading of the footwear, and the generated electrical energy is conditioned and supplied to the rechargeable battery (118). Electrical energy stored in the rechargeable battery (118) is selectively supplied to one or more heating elements (122) disposed in thermal communication with the plantar support member (106). The temperature sensor (124) detects a temperature associated with the heating arrangement and provides temperature information to the controller (126), which regulates operation of the heating arrangement. An automatic temperature cut-off arrangement (130) may interrupt or regulate heating upon satisfaction of a predetermined temperature condition. The system may further provide external electrical charging, overcharge cut-off and mobile-phone-based heat control.
