MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611103227 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology Hamirpur on August 26, 2026, for A Heart Rate-Based Adaptive Motor Assistance System For Smart Electric Bicycles And Exercise Cycles.

Inventors include Dilshad Ahmad Khan; Yash Panthri; and Anjali Thakur.

The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a heart rate-based adaptive motor assistance system for electric bicycles and exercise cycles. The system comprises a heart rate sensor (101), a microcontroller (102), a motor controller (103), a battery pack (104), and an electric drive motor (105). The heart rate sensor continuously acquires physiological data from a rider and transmits the acquired data to the microcontroller. The microcontroller processes the heart rate information and generates a pulse- width modulation signal corresponding to rider exertion. The PWM signal is supplied to the motor controller, which regulates motor assistance according to the rider's physiological condition. Assistance increases when heart rate exceeds a predetermined threshold and decreases as the rider recovers. The invention may further utilize age-based physiological databases and machine-learning algorithms to provide personalized assistance. The system improves rider comfort, safety, endurance, energy efficiency, and exercise control in transportation, fitness, and rehabilitation applications.
