Abstract: A handheld device measures water turbidity at field locations using coordinated scattered-light and transmitted-light sensing within a shielded sample chamber. A processor evaluates conditioned optical signals with stored calibration profiles, temperature compensation, ambient baseline correction, range selection, and signal- quality assessment. Sample alignment, closure detection, bubble screening, and orientation checking reduce acceptance of disturbed measurements. The device presents the resulting turbidity value, records associated time and condition data, and supports electronic transfer, thereby enabling portable, traceable, and broad-range water quality assessment.
