Abstract: ABSTRACT TITLE: A hand tool for generating blaze in tree trunks for sustainable gum harvesting The invention provides a hand tool (1) for generating cylindrical blaze in tree trunks for sustainable gum harvesting from trees comprising: a bark penetrating and cutting working blade part (2) at front including cutter edged blade having a circular shape blade portion (5); a sharp nail (6) cooperative at the front of the working blade part (2); a handle part (3) operatively connected to said working blade part (2) adapted for hammering entry of the front nail (6) facilitated bark penetrating and cutting working blade part (2) entry through the entire bark of the tree and subsequent rotary motion thereof for rotating of the working blade (2) for generating cylindrical shaped blaze on tree trunk. At the end away from the working blade part (2), said handle part (3) is provided with handle holdable steel rods (4) for facilitating the hammering and rotary motion of the operatively connected working blade (2).The overall dimension of developed lightweight tool i.e. length, width and height were 235 mm x 130 mm x 25 mm, respectively and weighing 0.8 kg. The tool can be used for different gum producing tree such as Buchananialanzan, Butea Monosperma, Moringaolifera lam, Sterculiauren and TarminaliaBellirica with less injury to the treein term of volume of bark removal. The testing results showed that, the blaze making process by the tool is simple and safe and highly productive for tapping gum in both with or without application of gum inducer preferably, for chironji gum tapping producing about 661.4 g and 249.4 g of the gum, respectively. Use of developed tool saves time and reduces cost for blaze making. Figure 1a and 1b
