Abstract: A growth-adaptive soft-performance garment (100) for children is disclosed. The garment (100) comprises a garment body having at least one directional pleated expansion zone (102, 104, 106, 108) comprising a plurality of pleats (110) of a pleat-memory textile, a sequential locking arrangement (120) configured to releasably retain the pleats (110) in a folded configuration and, upon staged release, to permit unfolding by a predetermined expansion increment, stress-distribution reinforcement (130) at an interface of the zone, and a soft inner comfort layer (150). The pleats (110), the locking arrangement (120) and the reinforcement (130) cooperate to provide staged, lockable and reversible dimensional expansion across a plurality of size stages while substantially preserving the silhouette, comfort and durability of the garment (100), thereby enabling a single garment to accommodate the growth of a child.
