The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a green, one-pot method for the synthesis of stable, crystalline silver-copper (Ag–Cu) bimetallic nanoparticles in a dry powder form using an aqueous-ethanolic extract of Nigella sativa seeds as a natural reducing, stabilizing, and capping agent. The method involves mixing silver nitrate and copper nitrate precursor solutions in an equal 1:1 ratio, followed by controlled thermal treatment, biological reduction, centrifugation, washing, and oven drying to obtain highly crystalline, spherical nanoparticles with an average particle size below 50 nm. The phytochemical constituents of Nigella sativa, including thymoquinone, polyphenols, and flavonoids, provide effective steric stabilization, preventing nanoparticle agglomeration and enhancing long-term storage stability in dry powder form. The synthesized Ag–Cu bimetallic nanoparticles exhibit excellent photocatalytic performance for the degradation of Malachite Green dye under solar or UV-visible irradiation through reactive oxygen species generation, making them suitable for wastewater remediation. Additionally, the nanoparticles demonstrate broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The disclosed method eliminates the use of hazardous chemical reducing agents, provides an environmentally friendly and cost-effective synthesis route, and offers a multifunctional nanomaterial with significant potential for environmental and biomedical applications.
