MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511111280 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras on November 14, 2025, for A Gene Silencing Agent For Translational Modulation.

Inventors include Pradip Paik; Kirti Wasnik; and Pratik Chattopadhyay.

The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a cytotoxic and nuclease resistant gene silencing agent for translational modulation. The gene silencing agent comprises of an oligonucleotide that includes an asymmetric small interfering RNA (siRNA) and a ribose-sugar modification group wherein the oligonucleotide includes a sense and antisense strand that are modified by the ribose-sugar modification group to obtain said double-stranded modified oligonucleotide duplex. Moreover, the gene silencing agent facilitates translational modulation by silencing the target mRNA through RNA interference mechanism. Furthermore, the gene silencing agent exhibits improved silencing efficacy, serum stability, resistance to nuclease degradation and is cytotoxic to both triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) cell line as well as glioblastoma cell line by facilitating apoptosis through arresting cell cycle at S-phase.
