MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631091928 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Indian School Of Mines, Dhanbad on July 29, 2026, for A Fuzzy-Pid-Based Intracranial Pressure Controller With A Smart Shunt For Neurological Conditions And Its Implementation.

Inventors include Prasad Anjali Ramashankar Chandadevi; and Dr. Seetala Prasad Tiwari.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: A closed-loop intracranial-pressure control system (100) is disclosed. A pressure sensing unit (110) senses intracranial pressure and generates a feedback signal (P_ic), from which an error-determination unit (120) determines an error signal (e) and a change-in-error signal (ce). A fuzzy inference system (132) determines proportional, integral and derivative gains (k_p, k_i, k_d) according to fuzzy rules optimised using an enhanced-RCTO optimisation algorithm, and a PID control block (134) generates a controller-command signal (u_cmd). A signal-conditioning arrangement (140) conditions that signal, and an actuator arrangement (150) converts and limits it to provide a valve-opening-pressure signal (P_o). An automatically adjustable valve (164) of a smart shunt assembly (160) sets its opening pressure accordingly and regulates a drainage flow rate (q_s) of cerebrospinal fluid, whereby the intracranial pressure is varied and fed back, so that the opening pressure is automatically and repeatedly adjusted to maintain the intracranial pressure within a predetermined range.
