MUMBAI, India, June 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641050473 A) filed by Kalasalingam Academy Of Research And Education on April 21, 2026, for A Fusion-Based System For Perceptual Enhancement Of Underwater Imagery Using Single-Image Bleeding.

Inventors include Dr. Kalpana Murugan; T. Vignesh; G. Vardan; and B. Seshagiri Roa.

The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.

Abstract: Title: A FUSION-BASED SYSTEM FOR PERCEPTUAL ENHANCEMENT OF UNDERWATER IMAGERY USING SINGLE-IMAGE BLENDING The titled invention discloses a fusion-based system designed to enhance underwater images using a single-image processing approach. The system comprises an input image acquisition .module (1) for receiving a raw underwater image, followed by an RGB channel decomposition module (2) for separating the image into red, green, and 10 blue channels. An adaptive white balancing module (3) utilizes the green channel as a reference to suppress the red channel and enhance the blue channel for correcting color distortion. A reconstruction module (4) recombines the corrected channels to form a balanced image. The reconstructed image is processed through an image sharpening module (5) using unsharp masking and a gamma correction module (6) 15 for improving brightness and contrast. A fusion module (7) combines both processed outputs using weighted pixel-wise blending to produce an enhanced image. The output image module (8) generates the final image with improved clarity, reduced haze, and balanced color. The invention provides a computationally efficient and real-time solution suitable for underwater applications.
