MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511011365 A) filed by Birla Institute Of Technology And Science, Pilani on February 11, 2025, for A Functionally Graded Fiber Reinforced Composite And A Method Of Preparation Thereof.

Inventors include Shamsher Bahadur Singh; and Pulleti Siva Sankar.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a functionally graded hybrid composites using natural fibers and synthetic fibers. These composites are designed to exhibit varying material properties along their thickness, providing enhanced mechanical properties such as high tensile and compressive strength, lightweight, and resistance to moisture, fire, sound, and cracks. The fabrication process involves a hand-layup method and a mercerization process to improve fiber/matrix adhesion. The resulting composites are suitable for diverse applications in construction, automotive, aerospace, marine, and other industries, offering environmental benefits, reduced material costs, and superior performance.
