MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411099013 A) filed by Mercedes-Benz Group AG on December 14, 2024, for A Frunk.
Inventors include Swetha Murthy; Charan Nagaraj; and Santosh Ramesh.
The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.
Abstract: A frunk 100 for a vehicle includes a basket 102 having a cavity 104 to store one or more items; and a locking mechanism 200, 250 to detachably couple the basket to a side cover of the vehicle body under a hood of the vehicle. A middle portion 304 of the basket 102 is made of a flexible material that enables a top portion 302 and a bottom portion 306 to be moved away or closer to each other to change size of the cavity 104. The basket 102 is partitioned with one or more guided telescopic partition walls 106. A motor 310 attached with one or more link rods 308, facilitates expansion and folding of the basket 102 to change size of the cavity 104. The frunk 100 includes a plurality of wheels 404 and an extendable handle 406 for use of the frunk 100 as a trolley 402.
