Abstract: A float-operated fluid level control valve comprising a valve body (5), a fluid inlet constituted by a threaded nipple (3) secured to the valve body by a collar nut (14) and fastened to a containment vessel wall by a hex nut (2), a piston (15) carrying a three-portion rubber seal (4), and a Scott Russell straight-line linkage mechanism. The linkage mechanism comprises a coupler link (6) having a length twice that of a crank link (7), the crank link (7) being fixedly pivoted to the valve body (5) at a first revolute joint (12) formed by a dowel pin (16) and connected at its free end to the midpoint of the coupler link (6) through a second revolute joint (11). A float (8) is pivotally connected to one terminal end of the coupler link (6) through a third revolute joint (9), and the piston (15) is pivotally connected to the other terminal end of the coupler link (6) through a fourth revolute joint (10). Vertical buoyancy-induced displacement of the float (8) is converted, by the intrinsic geometry of the Scott Russell mechanism, into precise horizontal translational motion of the piston (15) co-axial with the fluid inlet port, effecting automatic opening and closing of the fluid inlet in response to changes in the fluid level. A stopper (13) limits piston travel and maintains float alignment. The float (8) is invertibly mountable for adaptation to reservoirs of varying depth.
