MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611063143 A) filed by Malaviya National Institute Of Technology Jaipur on May 19, 2026, for A Fixture For Indexed Machining Of External Ribs On Elongated Cylindrical Surfaces And Process Thereof.

Inventors include Amit Arora; and Mayank Bhardwaj.

The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a mechanical fixture and an associated machining process for indexed machining of external longitudinal ribs on elongated cylindrical surfaces. The fixture comprises a rigid elongated hollow fixture body (1) having a longitudinal opening for receiving a cylindrical workpiece, a plurality of screw clamps (2) for firm and stable clamping, a soft guard strip (3) for protecting the workpiece surface, an indexing mechanism for precise circumferential positioning, and a stopper bolt and plate arrangement for axial restraint. A commercially available portable machining head equipped with a rotary cutting tool is guided along the fixture body to machine longitudinal ribs with desired depth and profile. After each rib-cutting operation, the workpiece is indexed circumferentially and re-clamped for machining subsequent ribs. The invention enables high-speed, low-cost machining of uniformly spaced ribs on long cylindrical workpieces, supports varied rib geometries, and is suitable for both conducting and non- conducting materials.
