Abstract: A DUAL-AXIS PIVOT FOR SOLAR PANELS The invention relates to photovoltaic tracking systems, and more particularly to a pivotable mechanism and method for imparting a controlled North-South tilt to a photovoltaic module-supporting structure. A main torque tube 10 provides East-West rotation while a pivotable mechanism 30, supported by pivot fixing parts 36 secured to the main torque tube 10 by C-bolts 37 and fixing nuts 52, provides a North-South pivot about a rotational shaft 33. Powered adjustment is produced by a motor 38 through a drive shaft 34, a grub screw 35, and a rotational arm 32 to angularly displace a base plate 31 and upper module-supporting members including module mounting parts 40 and module mounting supports 41. A control unit for pivot 39 operates the motor 38 independently of, or in coordination with, the East-West rotation, enabling dual-axis tracking, programmable shading, selective operating modes, and safety stow operation.
