MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611088697 A) filed by Manipal University Jaipur on July 20, 2026, for A Distributed Hybrid Prognostics System With Evolving Lifespan Intelligence For Civil Infrastructure.

Inventors include Upasana Dwivedy; Geeta Rani; and Prof. Vijaypal Singh Dhaka.

The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a self-adaptive distributed hybrid prognostics system and related method for the dynamic estimation of civil infrastructure assets (buildings, bridges, etc.) and construction systems throughout their life cycle. The system comprises a network of spatially distributed sensors to monitor structural and environmental parameters associated with material behavior and usage, continuously; each sensor node incorporates an embedded edge processing unit comprising a microcontroller or low-power processor configured to perform signal conditioning, noise filtering, feature extraction, local anomaly detection, and event classification; a communication layer configured to enable wireless communication between the sensor nodes and a centralized platform using low-power wide-area networks (LPWAN), mesh networks, or other wireless communication technologies, wherein the communication layer is configured to provide energy-efficient, fault-tolerant, and scalable data transmission across large infrastructure networks; a hybrid prognostic architecture where locally processed information is collected within a centralized analytical framework for further analysis through the fusion of physics-consistent structural representations and data driven modelling; and a user interface and decision support layer to present real-time structural health indicators, predicted Remaining Useful Life (RUL) values, degradation trends with confidence intervals, maintenance recommendations, and risk alerts, thereby supporting proactive maintenance planning and efficient asset management. The present invention offers proactive maintenance plans, risk mitigation, and long-term asset management rather than a historical analysis of failure events.
