Abstract: ABSTRACT A DISTRIBUTED DATABASE SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DEPENDENCY-AWARE DATA PLACEMENT TO REDUCE CROSS-NODE COMMUNICATION The present disclosure relates to a distributed database system and method for dependency-aware data placement to reduce cross-node communication. The distributed database system (100) comprising a plurality of interconnected nodes (102-1…102-n), each including a processing unit, a storage subsystem, and a network interface coupled via a communication interface (104), and a management processor (106) operatively coupled to the nodes is disclosed. The management processor (106) is configured to ingest a relational schema and data records into a first node (102-1), determine a recursive data affinity score based on hierarchical parent-child table dependencies, generate a partitioning plan comprising at least one shard and a replica of a root table, and instruct transmission and commitment of the shard and the replica from the first node (102-1) to a second node (102-2) for execution of join queries.
