Abstract: The global energy landscape faces mounting pressure from depleting fossil fuel reserves, pushing researchers toward renewable energy integration and wider adoption of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs). This shift aims to reduce dependence on conventional fuels, meet rising energy demand, and address climate concerns. A major grid challenge is the sharp spike in electricity demand during peak hours, which can destabilize existing networks. To counter this, researchers have explored strategies that lean on renewable sources — for instance, coordinated control schemes combining hydro, fuel cell, wind, and solar generation, or hybrid wind-photovoltaic control systems — to smooth out load variability. Electric vehicle batteries offer a natural solution here: since most personal vehicles are parked and idle roughly 22 hours a day, they represent a large, underused storage resource. When plugged in, EVs can absorb surplus grid energy (Grid-to-Vehicle, or G2V) and later discharge it back during high-demand periods (Vehicle-to-Grid, or V2G). While V2G at the scale of a full utility grid is difficult — it requires large EV fleets, complex control systems, and is hard to deploy quickly — implementing V2G within a smaller micro-grid is far more practical.
