MUMBAI, India, Sept. 14 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641108188 A) filed by Pragati Engineering College on September 09, 2026, for A Digital Twin-Assisted Smart Wheelchair For Personalized Mobility And Real-Time Safety Monitoring..
Inventors include Dr. Prasanth Varasala; Mr. Chembrolu Satish; Dr. Venkateswarlu Chitteti; and Mrs. B Vasantha Lakhsmi.
The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: The proposed invention presents an IoT-based smart glove for translating sign language into text and speech in real time. The glove is equipped with five flex sensors to measure finger bending, an inertial measurement unit to detect hand movement and orientation, and pressure sensors to identify finger contact. An ESP32 controller collects and synchronizes the sensor signals. The acquired data are automatically calibrated, filtered, normalized, and processed using an Edge AI-based sign recognition model. The system identifies the performed sign and converts it into readable text displayed on an OLED screen or mobile application. The translated text can also be converted into voice through a speaker, enabling effective communication between sign-language users and people who do not understand sign language. Bluetooth or Wi-Fi connectivity supports communication with an IoT mobile application and secure cloud storage. A confidence-checking mechanism evaluates every recognized gesture. When a gesture is unclear or incorrectly performed, the glove provides vibration and LED-based haptic feedback, allowing the user to correct the sign immediately. The system also supports reverse communication by receiving speech or text from another person through the mobile application and converting it into predefined vibration patterns for the glove user. Automatic user calibration and a personalized gesture-recognition model improve accuracy for different hand sizes and signing styles. The proposed system provides a portable, low-cost, responsive, and user-friendly communication solution. Edge processing reduces translation delay and enables basic operation without continuous internet connectivity. Therefore, the invention can support people with hearing or speech impairments in education, healthcare, workplaces, public services, and everyday communication.
