MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641111799 A) filed by Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College Of Engineering on September 17, 2026, for A Device For Smart Contact Lens Based Intraocular Pressure Monitoring System.

Inventors include Rajalakshmi Natarajan; Nifana Uduman; Priyanka Manikandan; Rosni Linda Justin Venish Fernando; and Yasheka Sivakumar.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a smart contact lens device for continuous intraocular pressure monitoring associated with glaucoma management. The device comprises a biocompatible contact lens integrated with miniaturized pressure sensors, an embedded microcontroller, a wireless communication module, and a power management subsystem. The sensors are configured to detect subtle changes in corneal curvature corresponding to intraocular pressure variations. The embedded microcontroller processes the sensed data in real time and generates pressure-related outputs. The system is further configured to transmit the processed data wirelessly to an external monitoring device such as a smartphone for continuous tracking and analysis. The invention provides a non-invasive, wearable, and comfortable solution for long-term monitoring of eye pressure. Continuous data acquisition enables early detection of abnormal pressure variations, thereby improving clinical decision- making and reducing the risk of vision loss associated with glaucoma progression.
