MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611075784 A) filed by Motilal Nehru National Institute Of Technology, Allahabad on June 18, 2026, for A Deployable Antenna Reflector Support System.
Inventors include Pradeep Singh; and Satish Kumar.
The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: The present invention provides a deployable antenna reflector support system (100) comprising a plurality of hollow tubular members (102), hinge mechanisms (104), connective strips (106), shape memory alloy (SMA) spring actuators (108), end caps (110), and a reflector membrane (114). The hollow tubular members (102) are interconnected through hinge mechanisms (104) having partially cut end portions and centrally aligned hinge strips configured to facilitate controlled single-axis rotational movement. The SMA spring actuators (108) are positioned within the hollow tubular members (102) and are configured to generate deployment forces upon thermal activation, thereby enabling autonomous deployment without requiring external motors, hydraulic actuators, or cable-driven systems. The interconnected tubular members (102) and connective strips (106) form a collapsible polygonal truss structure capable of transitioning between compact stowed and deployed configurations. The system provides lightweight construction, enhanced structural stability, reliable deployment, efficient load distribution, and suitability for large deployable space antenna applications.
