Abstract: ABSTRACT [0025] An emotional-support conversational system named Empathy Nest is presented. User messages are classified into one of ten discrete emotions by a fine-tuned BERT model trained on a merged collection of approximately forty thousand labelled examples. The detected emotion guides a generative language model that produces context-aware replies. Conversation segments are stored in a MongoDB database and periodically used to further adapt the generative model to each user’s style. After a fixed number of exchanges the system recommends songs matched to the current emotion through the iTunes API. An Angular front-end provides a chat interface together with speech-to-text and text-to-speech capabilities via the Web Speech API. The resulting platform delivers adaptive, multimodal companionship intended to reduce feelings of isolation and to supply accessible emotional support.
