MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611101502 A) filed by Chandigarh University on August 22, 2026, for A Curcumin-Loaded, Folic Acid-Conjugated, Glutathione-Responsive Amino Acid Nanoparticle Formulation And Method Of Preparation Thereof.

Inventors include Ruhi Arisha; Hitesh Kumar Dewangan; and Shivam Sengupta.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a curcumin-loaded, folic acid-conjugated, glutathione-responsive amino acid nanoparticle formulation for targeted delivery of curcumin, comprising a self-assembled amino acid nanoparticle matrix (101) comprising L-cysteine, L-lysine, L-arginine, L-histidine and L-isoleucine; curcumin (102) encapsulated within the nanoparticle matrix (101); disulfide cross-links (103) formed by oxidation of thiol groups of L-cysteine; and folic acid (104) covalently conjugated to the nanoparticle surface. The formulation is prepared by aqueous self-assembly of the amino acids in the presence of curcumin, followed by controlled oxidation, folic acid conjugation, purification and lyophilization. Experimental observations demonstrated a mean particle size of approximately 118.4 nm, PDI of 0.142, zeta potential of +24.6 mV and curcumin encapsulation efficiency of approximately 85%. The nanoparticles exhibited predominantly spherical morphology and controlled, sustained curcumin release with glutathione-responsive intracellular drug release characteristics.
