Abstract: The present invention relates to a controlled-release botanical fumigation pellet for management of Tribolium castaneum in stored grains. The pellet comprises a compressed, freeze-dried encapsulated essential oil powder containing clove oil, eucalyptus oil, peppermint oil, and lemongrass oil in a ratio of 2:2:1:1. The essential oil blend is entrapped within an encapsulation matrix comprising whey protein isolate and polysorbate 20. The encapsulated formulation provides gradual diffusion of volatile compounds, thereby enabling sustained fumigant and repellent activity in a grain-storage environment. The invention further provides a method comprising blending the essential oils, preparing an encapsulation-matrix solution, forming an oil-in-water emulsion, freezing the emulsion, freeze-drying the frozen emulsion to obtain an encapsulated essential oil powder, and compressing the powder using a pellet press. The resulting pellet improves handling and storage while reducing rapid volatilisation of the essential oil blend.
