The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: A CONTINUOUS TWO-COLUMN VACUUM DISTILLATION SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR REFINING SPENT N-METHYL-2-PYRROLIDONE The invention relates to solvent recovery and purification from lithium-ion battery manufacturing and recycling streams, and more particularly to continuous refining of spent N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone. A waste N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone solution with electrode material slurry is subjected to front-end conditioning by pretreatment chemical addition, aqueous phase inversion, and/or heating, followed by filter press and cartridge filtration to remove suspended fine solids, carbon black, polymeric binder residues, and trace metals. The clarified stream is then processed in a first vacuum distillation column for volatility-based separation of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone and light volatile impurities from heavy residue, and in a second vacuum distillation column for finishing purification by separating light volatile impurities from refined N- methyl-2-pyrrolidone. The two-column reduced-pressure arrangement lowers thermal burden versus atmospheric distillation and enables continuous recovery of refined N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone suitable for reuse.
