MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541082555 A) filed by Indian Space Research Organization on August 30, 2025, for A Concept To Use Pre-Burner Gas For Rocket Stage Roll Control Without Flow Fluctuation To Main Engine By Thrusters With On-Off Mode Of Operation.

Abstract: The present innovation relates to a concept to use pre-burner gas for rocket stage roll control without flow fluctuation to main engine by thrusters with ON-OFF mode of operation with common chocked orifice at inlet to control the attitude of vehicle. The group of thrusters with chocked common orifice and combination of normally open & closed thrusters are used for three axis control of launch vehicles by using the hot gas flowing to the main engine without flow fluctuation to main engine. The group of thrusters with common chocked orifice to prevent flow fluctuations and subsequent combustion instability in engine during its operation by proper sequencing of the command to open/close to the normally closed and open thrusters. An additional benefit of operation at reduced thrust level can be achieved by operating the normally open thruster/thrusters along with normally closed thruster. The control electronics is less complex compared to swivellebale configuration with high pressure flexible hose due to unpredictability in hose movement.
