Abstract: The present invention relates to a compound N-(2-oxo-1,2,5,6,7,8-hexahydroquinolin-5-yl)thiane-4-carboxamide (100) comprising a hexahydroquinoline moiety (101) coupled to a thiane-4-carboxamide group (103) through an amide linkage, and an in vitro method of inhibiting the growth of glioblastoma cells using the compound N-(2-oxo-1,2,5,6,7,8-hexahydroquinolin-5-yl)thiane-4-carboxamide (100). The nitrogen heteroatom and sulfur heteroatom of the compound N-(2-oxo-1,2,5,6,7,8-hexahydroquinolin-5-yl)thiane-4- carboxamide (100) form hydrogen bonding and coordination interactions with the enzymatic binding sites of isocitrate dehydrogenase 1 and isocitrate dehydrogenase 2 enzymes simultaneously, blocking both cytoplasmic and mitochondrial D-2-hydroxyglutarate production pathways in glioblastoma cells. The in vitro method comprises seeding glioblastoma cells in a culture plate, administering the compound N-(2-oxo-1,2,5,6,7,8-hexahydroquinolin-5-yl)thiane-4-carboxamide (100) at a predetermined concentration, incubating the treated glioblastoma cells for a predetermined time period, and determining cell viability of the treated glioblastoma cells using a sulforhodamine B assay.
