MUMBAI, India, Sept. 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441066438 A) filed by Manipal Academy Of Higher Education on March 02, 2025, for A Composition Of A Gelatin-Based Bioactive Scaffold And A Method For Enabling Tissue Regeneration Thereof.
Inventors include Vinita Flora D'Souza; Shashi Rashmi Acharya; Raviraja N Seetharam; and S V Kirthanashri.
The application for the patent was published on September 04, 2026, under issue no. 36/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a biofunctionalized three-dimensional bioprinted scaffold for regenerative endodontic applications. The scaffold is fabricated using a photocrosslinkable gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) hydrogel selected for its biocompatibility, tunable mechanical properties, and ability to support cellular adhesion and proliferation. The invention employs a three-dimensional bioprinting process to precisely deposit a bioink in a layer-by-layer manner, forming a scaffold that mimics the native architecture of dental pulp tissue. The scaffold incorporates dental pulp stem cells and/or bioactive components to create a regenerative microenvironment. Post-printing photocrosslinking imparts structural stability while preserving an interconnected porous architecture suitable for nutrient and oxygen transport. The resulting scaffold supports cellular viability and tissue regeneration and provides a regenerative alternative to conventional root canal treatments. The invention advances regenerative endodontics by enabling controlled fabrication of biocompatible, structurally stable, and biologically active scaffolds for pulp–dentin complex regeneration.
