Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition of a brick with an in-situ formed spinel and a process for preparation thereof. The present invention more particularly relates to a composition for preparation of a refractory material, a brick for use as a refractory material and a process for preparing a brick for use as refractory material with an in-situ formed magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4). The brick with in-situ formed magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4) provides an improved heat life to a slag zone and a metal zone of a steel making ladle on employing as a refractory material.
