Abstract: A compact mechanical speed threshold determination and safety actuation apparatus for lifts is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a Motion Acquisition Arrangement configured to acquire motion representative of lift cabin movement, a Rotational Speed Transformation Arrangement configured to establish a predetermined rotational speed relationship between an acquired rotational input and a rotational output, a Dynamic Motion Conditioning Arrangement configured to promote stable rotational behaviour, a Mechanical Speed Threshold Determination Arrangement configured to mechanically determine when a predetermined lift cabin speed threshold has been exceeded, a Mechanical Actuating Arrangement configured to convert the threshold determination into mechanical actuation, and a Safety Actuation Arrangement configured to actuate a lift safety device. In a preferred embodiment, the apparatus is mounted on the lift cabin and acquires motion resulting from vertical linear movement of the lift cabin through engagement with a stationary guide rail. The apparatus is particularly suitable for residential lifts, home lifts, platform lifts and other low-speed lift systems and may operate independently of, or in conjunction with, electronic monitoring systems.
