The communication system (100) includes a plurality of battery packs (102). Each of the plurality of battery packs (102) has a battery management system (102a). A control unit (104) is communicatively connected to the battery management system (102a) of each of the plurality of battery packs (102). The control unit (104) is configured to receive information pertaining to a state of each of the plurality of battery packs (102) in the vehicle (10). Further, the control unit (104) is configured to assign a Controller Area Network Identifier (CAN ID) to each of the plurality of battery packs (102) based on the received information, thereby identifying a master battery pack from the plurality of battery packs (102).
