MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641114200 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 24, 2026, for A Combined-Elicitor Production Medium Composition And Method For Producing Anti-Mrsa Secondary Metabolites From Streptomyces Variabilis.
Inventors include Subathra Devi C; Kavin Raja M; and V. Mohanasrinivasan.
The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure proposes a production medium composition (100) and method for elicitor-mediated production of antibacterial secondary metabolites from Streptomyces variabilis. The composition (100) comprises soluble starch (102), potassium nitrate (104), sodium chloride (106), dipotassium hydrogen phosphate (108), magnesium sulfate (110), ferrous sulfate (112), sodium butyrate (114), and niacinamide (116). Sodium butyrate (114) and niacinamide (116) are employed as combined chemical elicitors. The method comprises preparing the composition (100), introducing Streptomyces variabilis into the composition (100) to form a fermentation broth (118), and incubating the fermentation broth (118) at 24 °C and 150 rpm for eight days. The produced secondary metabolites are extracted using ethyl acetate to obtain an ethyl acetate extract (120), which is concentrated under reduced pressure for antibacterial evaluation against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
