Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method of classification and secondary diagnosis of hyperpigmentated skin diseases based on images from dermatology using deep learning. The system takes photographs of skin lesions, preprocesses them (e.g., resizes and normalizes them), and uses a few pre-trained deep learning models for skin disease classification. This is done by measuring the performance of the models using metrics such as accuracy and area under the curve (AUC), and selecting the model with the best classification performance, which in this case is the MobileNet model. This system can identify a range of hyper pigmentation conditions including Melasma, Freckles, Café-au-Lait Spots, Nevus of Ota, Naevus Fusco-Caeruleus and Lentigo Simplex. The outcomes of the classifications are consolidated to develop diagnostic reports which guide dermatologists in clinical decisions. The invention may be embodied on website, mobile or desktop applications and provide effective, accurate and readily available support for diagnosing skin conditions.
