Abstract: A circuit for detecting and distinguishing between AC and DC power supplies on an SAE J3400 charging coupler (101) for an electric vehicle, comprising: a filtering unit configured to filter a Control Pilot (CP) (115) line signal; a voltage measurement unit configured to determine an average voltage of the filtered CP (115) line signal; and a comparator configured to compare the average voltage with predetermined threshold values to detect a duty cycle of the signal on the said CP (115) line; wherein, the said circuit for detection and distinguishing generates an "AC contactor enable (106)" signal if the duty cycle corresponds to AC power and a "DC contactor enable (108)" signal if the duty cycle corresponds to DC power.
