The apparatus (100) comprises a housing (102), a cam drive assembly (106), a chisel holder assembly (118), a grinding platform assembly (150), and an inspection assembly (156). The cam drive assembly (106) comprises a barrel cam (108), a driving unit (112), a load detection sensor (114), and an electromagnetic control relay (116). The chisel holder assembly (118) comprises a pivotable chisel holder (124), a cleaning chamber (136), a lead screw (142), and a spark detection sensor (144). The barrel cam (108) generates reciprocating sharpening movement, while the cleaning chamber (136) performs helical cleaning along the chisel (10). The electromagnetic control relay (116) controls completion of sharpening.
