Abstract: A brake system for a vehicle includes a push rod that operatively couples a brake pedal to a hydraulic booster. The push rod (118) comprises an outer push rod (502), an inner push rod (504) that moves telescopically within the outer push rod (502), and a lock mechanism (510) to selectively enable or prevent the telescopic movement. In an unlocked position of the lock mechanism (510), the push rod (118) allows the brake system (100) to operate in Brake-by-Wire (BBW) mode, preventing direct transfer of movement of the brake pedal (108) to the hydraulic booster (106). In the event of a BBW mode failure, the lock mechanism (510) is actuated to allow the inner push rod (504) to transfer movement of the brake pedal (108) to the hydraulic booster (106) and switch the brake system (100) to a fall-back mode, ensuring continued braking functionality.
