MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611101884 A) filed by Manipal University Jaipur on August 24, 2026, for A Blockchain-Based Secure Academic Credential Management And Zero-Knowledge Verification.

Inventor includes Dr. Virendra Singh.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a decentralized computing architecture for tamper-proof issuance, secure storage, autonomous management and privacy-centric authentication of educational achievements. The architecture comprises a Governance Framework, an Issuance Subsystem, an End-User Encrypted Wallet, a Request- Verifier Portal, and a Distributed Ledger Settlement Network. Academic records are converted into cryptographically signed verifiable credentials and organized using cryptographic tree structures having corresponding Merkle roots. The Merkle roots, credential metadata, and cryptographic commitments are recorded on the distributed ledger, while personally identifiable academic information is retained in encrypted, user-controlled storage. The system further enables selective disclosure of credential attributes through zero-knowledge proofs, allowing a credential holder to prove a selected educational attribute without revealing non-required information. A smart verification contract validates issuer status, digital signature authenticity, proof correctness, and credential revocation status, thereby providing privacy-preserving, decentralized, and tamper-evident verification of educational credentials.
