MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611108317 A) filed by Jaypee University Of Information Technology on September 09, 2026, for A Biodegradable Water Carton With Adaptive Barrier Repair And Triggered End-Of-Life Delamination And Method Thereof.

Inventors include Sushamjot Kaur; and Sudhir Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a biodegradable water carton with adaptive barrier repair and triggered end-of-life delamination and method thereof. The invention provides for a biodegradable water carton, which includes a cellulosic structural substrate, a selectively debondable bio-based interface, and a biodegradable barrier assembly having a rich nanocellulose region, a compositional gradient region, and a PHA-rich liquid-contact region. Barrier repair zones having extra biodegradable material are positioned at predetermined folding, corner, and seal areas. The application of heat and/or pressure during folding and sealing operations causes redistribution of the extra material to cover barrier discontinuities caused by mechanical stress. The invention further provides for maintenance of liquid barrier integrity during storage of drinking water. Opening and cutting the carton leads to exposure of the selectively debondable interface to a predetermined end-of-life operation. Fig. 1
