Abstract: The present invention relates to a biodegradable sanitary pad designed to offer effective menstrual hygiene while minimizing environmental impact. The pad consists of four primary layers: a linen cloth layer (101) for structural integrity and comfort, a cotton layer (102) for enhanced absorbency, an absorbent mixture (103) made from Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), Ragi powder, and Sugarcane husk, and a banana stem layer (104), which serves as the base, providing blood retention and biodegradability. The absorbent mixture is optimized for superior water and blood absorption, with the pad demonstrating a water absorbency of 22 ml and blood absorption of approximately 18.5 ml. The banana stem layer eliminates the need for synthetic plastic layers, ensuring biodegradability. The entire structure is sealed with muslin cloth to provide flexibility and strength. This invention offers a sustainable alternative to traditional sanitary products by reducing plastic waste and providing an eco-friendly solution for menstrual hygiene.
