MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641124909 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Madras Iit Madras on October 19, 2026, for A Biodegradable Polymer Composite.
Inventors include Ethayaraja Mani; and Chithambaram Karunanithi.
The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a biodegradable composite reinforced with purified Tectona grandis wood cellulose and microcrystalline cellulose for electrical connectors and casings. Sequential alkali and bleaching treatments isolate highly crystalline, fibrillated cellulose, while maleic anhydride reactive grafting improves cellulose–matrix interfacial compatibility during twin-screw extrusion. The resulting composite exhibits a cohesive microstructure, maintained notched impact resistance of 661 J/m, enhanced thermal stability with protective char formation, and controlled high-frequency dielectric behavior with reduced dielectric loss across the gigahertz range. The composite therefore provides a sustainable alternative to petroleum-based engineering plastics for electrical applications.
