Abstract: TITLE: A BIODEGRADABLE PLANT-BASED BIOSENSOR FOR DUAL DETECTION OF METABOLIC BIOMARKERS AND MICROBIAL TARGETS APPLICANT: 1. MEENAKSHI ACADEMY OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND RESEARCH 2. MEENAKSHI AMMAL DENTAL COLLEGE AND HOSPITAL ABSTRACT The present invention discloses a biodegradable plant-based biosensor system for dual detection of metabolic and microbial targets. The biosensor system comprises a biodegradable substrate formed from a plant-derived biopolymeric matrix, encapsulated plant-derived pigments functioning as responsive colorimetric indicators, green-synthesized nanoparticles, and biorecognition elements immobilized within the substrate. A metabolic detection module utilizes glucose oxidase to generate hydrogen peroxide that interacts with the encapsulated pigments to produce a visible colorimetric response indicative of glucose presence. A microbial detection module facilitates interaction between microbial metabolites, enzymes, or pH variations and the encapsulated pigments to generate a distinct colorimetric response indicative of microbial contamination. The biosensor system is configured as a portable strip or patch comprising a multilayer sensing arrangement, a hydrophilic sample receiving region, and capillary pathways for analyte transport. The coordinated interaction of the substrate, pigments, nanoparticles, biorecognition elements, and detection modules enables visual detection of metabolic and microbial targets without external instrumentation. The biosensor system is applicable in biomedical, food safety, and environmental monitoring applications.
