Abstract: ABSTRACT A BIODEGRADABLE CHITOSAN-CURCUMIN-BASED SMART ANTIMICROBIAL FILM FOR ACTIVE AND INTELLIGENT FOOD PACKAGING A biodegradable smart antimicrobial film for food packaging comprising chitosan as a biopolymer matrix, curcumin as a pH-sensitive indicator, and a plasticizer is disclosed. The film exhibits antimicrobial activity and provides real-time visual indication of food spoilage through a color change from yellow to reddish-brown in response to alkaline gases. The film is prepared by a solvent casting method and is eco-friendly, cost-effective, and suitable for direct food contact, enabling extended shelf life and intelligent monitoring of packaged food quality.
