MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611000356 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on January 02, 2026, for A Biocomposite For Pavement Construction And A Method Of Preparation Thereof.
Inventors include Vivek Pratap Wagh; Mansi Sharma; and Ankit Gupta.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a sustainable and cost-effective biocomposite for pavement construction. The biocomposite is a crumb rubber-based bio-asphalt that is obtained through an economical and facile method of preparation. Further, the biocomposite exhibits high temperature performance, improved viscoelasticity, particularly at high temperature and low frequency, and enhanced rutting resistance. In addition, the biocomposite also exhibits higher activation energy, thereby providing long term binder stability and enhancing aggregate bonding, which further facilitates durability under traffic loading. Therefore, the present invention provides a stable and durable composite by utilizing waste materials, as a sustainable solution that promotes waste utilization, reduces dependency on petroleum resources, and contributes to the development of environmentally friendly and durable road infrastructure.
